Did you know that your Hatch For you page finds jobs connected to every part of your profile? Our Hatch Compass learns from your experience, preferences, and work values to recommend jobs that genuinely match your whole self. But if it doesn’t have all the right information, sometimes these jobs are misaligned.

This article will walk you through how to perfect your profile and ideal job prompt to make sure you are seeing the best recommendations possible.

1) Make sure your profile is up to date

Hatch Compass will only recommend jobs it thinks are well aligned with your experience and skills. So make sure you have included:

  • Your past job experience with a description of your responsibilities, deliverables, and skills.

  • Any special knowledge you needed to be successful in a previous job, including any specific tools or techniques.

  • Spotlights that showcase your key milestones, at work or in life, to add evidence behind your skills.

Your Hatch profile should be a living resource that you update regularly. You can add the big projects you led, your recent viral moment, community events you managed, or anything else where you can highlight your transferable skills!

If you get stuck, you can follow this guide to ensure your profile is 100% complete.

2) Describe your dream job

This isn’t a key word search! This is where you start your job search conversation. Imagine you are telling your friend what you want your next job to be. Be relaxed, positive, and concise, but don’t write a laundry list of key words.

Some of our favourite examples are:

  • Marketing Manager at a trending e-commerce brand

  • Junior sales job at a rewards-oriented company

  • Write code somewhere I can make an impact

  • Product lead at an up-and-coming disruptor brand

  • Use my creativity to drive growth for a health-tech company

Just use your own words and try different sentences out to see how your recommendations change.

3) Use filters

This is where you can make sure your deal breakers are fulfilled. Press on any filter to open the filters pop-up and start filling out your requirements.

Some filters, like “Contract” and “You require a visa sponsorship” will likely reduce the number of jobs you see because there are less of them available on Hatch. So wherever possible, include all options you’d be happy with.

Your desired salary range is hidden from employers but can help you only see jobs that match the salary level you are after.

Now its time to start exploring your updated recommendations! Remember to keep your profile up to date and treat your ideal job description like a conversation with a friend. If something really isn’t a match or you have seen it already on another platform, press “Not interested” to hide it from your For you page.
