What is Hatch? 👋

Hatch is a leading destination where young people all over Australia find meaningful work. On Hatch, job seekers and employers match with each other based on their skills fit, motivations, and values.

Most employers hire through Hatch Students, a flexible student workforce you can tap into whenever a need comes up.

Our goal is to provide access to meaningful paid work for the 2m+ young Australians studying at university each year.

Hatch Students and student jobs 🎓

A student job is how you hire through Hatch Students. Hatch is the employer of record, so we look after payroll, contracts and compliance while your team directs the day-to-day work.

  • A multi-university solution: we provide access to a single national talent pool of students from all universities and degrees, to work as “Hatchies” in your business.

  • Flexible by design: placements run 3 to 12 months, at 15 to 40 hours a week.

  • No headcount impact: your hire is employed by Hatch, not your business.

  • Fast: start reviewing pre-assessed applicants the same week you post, and the average time to hire is two weeks.

  • A built-in pipeline: convert your Hatchie into a permanent or graduate job at no cost after three months of work.

  • Support for every Hatchie: onboarding, peer meetups and coaching throughout their placement.

Student jobs suit scoped projects and ongoing part-time work, for 3 to 12 months. Learn more about Hatch Students.

Direct hire jobs 💼

Need a permanent hire? Post a direct hire job and hire straight into your team. You're the employer, so contracts, payroll and onboarding sit with you.

  • Every plan includes unlimited direct hire jobs at no extra cost.

  • On Plus and Enterprise, you also get more Hatch Students hires, and help getting set up. Compare plans.

Not sure which to pick? If the job is a scoped project or ongoing part-time work for 3 to 12 months, post a student job. If you need someone permanently from day one, post a direct hire job.

💡 A job's type is set when you post it and can't be changed afterwards. To switch, post a new job.

FAQs

How is Hatch Students different from running our own internship or graduate program?

Internship and graduate programs run on fixed intakes and timelines, and take a lot of work from your people and talent teams. With Hatch Students, any hiring manager can bring on a student when a real need comes up, for as long as it lasts. Hatch handles the matching, payroll and student support. Already run a program? Hatch Students can fill gaps between intakes and help you get to know strong students earlier.

What kinds of jobs suit a student job?

Any job where a motivated student can contribute to real work while they study. Common examples include:

  • Business operations: finance, legal, people and culture

  • Go-to-market: marketing, sales, customer success

  • Technology: engineering, design, data, product

Students often work more hours in uni holidays and fewer around exams, so plan for some flex.

What does ‘no headcount’ mean?

Your Hatchie is employed by Hatch, not your business, so they don't sit on your headcount. You pay Hatch for the hours they work, which usually comes out of a project or team budget rather than your people costs.

How much does a student job cost?

There are two parts: your plan's platform fee, and your Hatchie's hours worked. Posting a direct hire job is free. See Plans and pricing and How much students are paid and what you're charged.

Can I hire recent graduates?

Yes, through Hatch Students, as long as the job is a contract and they can still access their university email to verify.

Where can Hatch employ people?

Everywhere in Australia except the ACT. What matters is where your hire is located, not your office. See where we operate.

Can I hire my Hatchie permanently?

Yes, and converting them to a permanent or graduate job is free once they've worked with you for three months.
