How much students are paid and what you're charged

Let's break down how much your Hatchie gets paid and what we charge you

Written by Bella

Hatch Students labour cost is made up of the base rate students are paid, superannuation, on-costs, and a Hatch admin fee. The total costs charged to employers vary by several factors, including where the person will work and whether they are currently studying or a recent graduate.

This article breaks down the different factors that contribute to this cost. Looking for a simple table? Jump to this section.

How much are students paid?

Students are paid according to the most appropriate award rate. This is dependent on:

  • Which state they are working in: Even for remote jobs, the location of the student is what determines which state’s award rate is used.

  • If they have graduated: Graduates have a higher award rate than current students, and so you will be charged more.

We've made it super easy for employers to navigate. You just choose the type of hire you're making from the following, and we'll handle the rest.

Through Hatch Students, you can hire:

  • Students: Currently studying students who are still completing their university degree.

  • Graduate - General: Graduates who've completed a university degree. Use for marketing, finance, accounting, sales, and general admin entry-level roles. Not applicable to engineering, science or technology graduates or roles.

  • Graduate - Science, Engineering & Technology: Graduates with a science, technology or engineering degree in an entry-level role in that field.

For example, if you wanted to hire a student who is still completing their university degree in NSW, then their base pay rate is $33.71. Including superannuation, on costs and a Hatch admin fee, you would be charged $47.14. Jump to the section with the full breakdown by type of hire and locaiton.

What do I get charged on my invoice?

Hatch charges you for the student’s base pay as well as:

  • Superannuation

  • Payroll tax

  • Workers compensation insurance

  • Hatch fee (15%)

The specific payroll tax and workers’ compensation insurance vary by state.

We've simplified it all for you in our pricing calculator - simply plug in the placement details and location and we'll give you a clear estimate for the student hourly pay rate, total hourly charge rate, and your total placement cost.

Are there any pre-employment check costs?
