How to list a role on Hatch

Getting starting listing a role and how to make the most of Hatch's features.

Updated over a week ago

We can’t wait to see the exciting roles you are hiring for and do our best to connect you to the perfect candidate!

🚨 But here at Hatch we operate “better safe than sorry” when it comes to spam, so make sure when listing a role you fill out all the sections correctly and genuinely.

✍️ Finding the perfect title

It can be tough to come up with an eye-catching title for your role, which is why we have written our top 3 tips for writing a role title.

👆 Short and sweet (and specific)

Just like a dating app, Hatch users only spend a few seconds looking at a role title before they make a decision as to whether or not to look at it further. So your role title must be precise and catchy in order to grab the attention of your perfect candidate.

A good way to narrow down your title is to consider the role’s focus and what team the candidate would work in once hired. For example, “Engineer” is far too broad, because there’s a difference between a “Front-end Software Engineer” and a “Structural Civil Engineer”. But at the same time “Hatch Full-time Product Success and Business Analyst for Digital Product” should instead be cut down to “Digital Product Manager”.

✌️ If it is WFH / hybrid or an internship, say it in the title

In today’s job market, there are a few trigger words (like WFH) that exponentially improve a role’s number of applications if included in the title. From our research, these are WFH / hybrid, and internship. This helps you instantly explain the nature of the role and attract only matching candidates.

For example, if you are hiring an intern to join the Marketing team, don’t say “Junior Digital Marketing Associate”, instead say “Social Media Marketing Intern”.

But, these trigger words are used to match you to the RIGHT candidate, so don’t add them unless they actually apply to your role! Specifically, only include “WFH” if it is a 100% hybrid role.

🤟Don’t over complicate things, use our table of tried and true role titles

💡 Completing The Basics

This information is vital to ensure that only people who can actually accept the role will apply.

🤩 Role Overview

You know the drill! Include the role responsibilities, deliverables and describe your dream candidate. This is not the place to talk about your company, that’s coming later ;)

🌏 Location

If the role is 100% in person, share the address of your office so that candidates can determine if the commute is doable for them. If the role is hybrid, let candidates know what days are in-office in the notes section. If the role is 100% WFH, then select remote and choose the correct time zone.

NOTE: Sydney is UTS+10

💼 Employment Type

Be realistic and specific about the expected hours of work per week for non full-time roles.

NOTE: If you select “Intern”, the only option for Role Seniority is “Entry-Level”

🦸 Build your Dream Candidate

The “Responsibilities” section allows you to describe all the skills your perfect candidate would have. We help you complete some of this section based on your selections for Job Family and Functional Focus.

Is there something missing? Reach out to us at ask@hatch.team and we will do our best to help you build your dream candidate.

📸 What’s a skill snapshot?

Anyone can write a skill down on a resume but it takes an awesome candidate to be able to show it. We have created skill snapshots for every Functional Focus listed that we believe allow you to effectively review a candidate’s abilities in the target field.

👋 Introduce Your Team

Just like how Hatch prioritises the person over the CV in the candidate application process, we want to see your team described using its people and culture rather than facts about its success.

🐣 Creating a team profile

NOTE: This is unique to the team! Don’t use the same content for all teams. We save all of the teams you create, so you can either add a role to an existing team or create a new one using the below information.

The first thing a candidate sees when opening a role is your team photo, so make it fun and genuine! You can see some of our favourite examples by pressing on the button next to “Upload”. In general, we want a high quality photo of a candid team moment or fun company event, not an overly posed group photo or branded images.

Want to go above and beyond? Upload a team video! This is a great way to give an insight into the team and get the candidate excited about working with you.

Let the candidate peak behind the curtain and learn how your team operates on a daily basis by completing the Team working style section. This is how you showcase your team’s culture and help candidates determine if their personality would be a good match. It is also a big factor in our Hatch Match algorithm, because sometimes a candidate’s skills and personality are a perfect fit for a role they never would have usually considered.

👑 Creating a company profile

After a candidate looks at the team photo and role title, they start reading the company information, beginning with the mission statement. Our favourite way to write a mission statement is to use this formula:

WHAT are you trying to achieve + WHY is this important to your team + HOW are you going to do it?

A mission statement should only be 1-2 sentences. Keen to share the company history and more information into what you are working on? Share a link to your website and write up to 300 words in the company description section (don’t leave it blank).

TIP: Only the first sentence of this gets shown on the role page, so make it a good one!

🎉 Preview your role!

Pat yourself on the back because you just created an awesome role! Want to double check it all looks right on the candidate's side? Preview your role and then make any necessary changes.

Now it’s time to share your role on other platforms and show off your hard work!

NOTE: You cannot edit the role after publishing, but can change the close date. Feel free to

contact us at ask@hatch.team if you want to make any changes and we can do it for you 😊!
